Bachipedia – a project of the J.S. Bach Foundation
The J.S. Bach Foundation is performing the entire vocal oeuvre of Johann Sebastian Bach in an ambitious concert cycle lasting around 25 years. The first concert took place in 2006, and since then, all introductory workshops, concerts and reflective lectures have been recorded on video. Over the years, we have amassed an extensive collection of audio and film material as well as other content related to the master’s works. One of the Foundation’s aims is to raise the profile of Bach’s vocal oeuvre – especially among the young. To this end, the Foundation established the “Bachipedia” platform. BACH FACTORY on BWV 34 "O ewiges Feuer, o Ursprung der Liebe"
The “Bach Factory” is a video series by the J.S. Bach-Stiftung St. Gallen that gives you interesting insights into Bach’s cantatas – including exclusive excerpts from their live performance.
In this workshop, Xoán Castiñeira and Rudolf Lutz explore J.S. Bach’s cantata BWV 34 «O ewiges Feuer, o Ursprung der Liebe» (O fire everlasting, O fountain of loving). The cantata is rather unusual: Parts of it go back to a secular wedding cantata, which the librettist skillfully reshaped into a Pentecost piece. So how does this work – musically and thematically?
The concert recording, introductory workshop and reflective lecture (in German) are available at Bachipedia.
